SYC2 Staging Yard Controller

Configure your staging yard

Each SYC2 controller uses a custom-programmed microprocessor to control your staging yard. This page is where you configure that microprocessor. If you haven't done so already, open and print this form to determine the values you need here.

Draw your staging yard diagram on the printed form and label each turnout. Complete the form's route table to indicate the turnouts that are "reversed" (thrown to the diverging route) to reach every yard track. Check the boxes in the route table shown below to indicate these reversed turnouts, and verify with the printed route table.

Enter your name and e-mail address in the fields below, and complete the remaining configuration items. Refer to the printed form for additional information about the configuration items. Some fields have suggested values; it's a good idea to keep these unless you know that your equipment needs something different.

Cick the Submit button at the bottom of this page when the configuration data and route table are complete. Click Done to return to the SYC2 home page.

Configuration Data

Yard name

What you call your staging yard. This is stored in the microprocessor for reference.

Chip ID color spot

Color spot to be painted on the microprocessor chip for easy identification, should you have more than one SYC2.

Turnout motor travel time

Number of seconds needed for your turnout motors to move the points fully.

Track power-off delay

Number of seconds for the SYC2 to delay turning off the track power after the occupancy detector reports that the throat is vacant. Short yard tracks need short times to prevent trains from hitting the bumper; longer tracks can have longer times.

Throat-entry time

Number of seconds after pressing the Start button during which a train must enter the yard throat. If not, the SYC2 cancels the operation.

Throat-entry "grace period"

If a train enters the throat within this many seconds after the Throat-entry time expires, normal operation continues. If not, the SYC2 cancels the operation.

Route Table

Refer to your printed your staging yard diagram and check the box for every turnout that is reversed (thrown) to reach each track from the staging yard entrance.
